Choosing Your Wedding Colors

Choosing Your Wedding Colors

Wedding Tip Wednesday

Today we are going to talk about one of our favorite parts of design, your wedding colors. What you choose for your colors, will set the tone and design for your entire event. It is really important that you give it enough thought. Our recommendation is to pick out your two pops of color first. This can be colors that you really love, relate to your past somehow (i.e. Cougar Red or Husky Purple) or just a pinterest design you fell in love with. Once your two pops of color are chosen, then it is time to find the base color that will best support your design. As always, you can choose from white or ivory as your base linen. We often encourage our clients to think a little outside of the box and try using grey, charcoal, or khaki as their base. These neutral linens allow your design to start one step further and add interest and sophistication to your entire event.

Feel free to reach out for your complimentary one hour design consultation. We would love to help you with your design and find the tablescape that best reflects your vision.

Happy Wedding Planning!

Wedding Tip: Ask About Your Rental Period

Wedding Tip: Ask About Your Rental Period

Wedding Tip Wednesday

Today we wanted to talk to you about the rental period. As you are planning your wedding, make sure to think of the timeline during the week leading up to your event. Oftentimes the day before a wedding is very full with last minute and time sensitive errands. Our goal here at SVWR is to provide as much flexibility and value to our clients. We encourage our clients to pick up their rentals the Wednesday or Thursday prior to their event. We ask that rentals be returned by close of day the Monday following your event. This is just one small way we can help make your wedding a little less stressful and cut out one of those last minute errands. Your wedding only happens once and our goal is to make it as stress free and enjoyable as possible. Of course we do offer the option for a delivery and setup of your rentals if needed.

Feel free to contact us for a 1 hour design consultation to see how best we can support you as your plan your special day.

A Rustic Summer Wedding at Maplehurst Farms

I absolutely adored working with Hillary and her family this last summer. From our first meeting to the mock set up and finally to the day of their wedding, Hillary was so laid back and easy going. It was really exciting to help bring her vision of a rustic wedding to life.

Flowers and Sashes on Aisle Chair

There were so many things that I loved about her design. Her colors were grey and light pink. For the ceremony, they took taffeta sashes in both colors and lined the aisle with bows on the chairs. These chairs were then moved after the ceremony to the head table, allowing the sashes to perform a double duty! This is a great way to stretch your design and allow it to work in multiple ways.

Maplehurst Farm Outdoor Ceremony

In order to bring more attention to the head table, Hillary decided to use a rosette overlay and a willow skirting on it. By keeping the color in the neutral palette, it allowed the texture difference in the linens to really set their table apart.  I just love how it turned out! (P.S. Don’t you just love the rustic lanterns? Maplehurst has these for you to use)

Decorative Linens

I especially liked how the curtain over the garage doors really framed the building and created a softer, more elegant look. This can be done at a stand alone item with the frame or we can attach it to the doors. It just brings the venue to the next level.

Ivory Sheer Drapery on Barn Doors

We always enjoy working with Jesse and Jeffery at Maplehurst Farms. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and see their venue, you must. They typically have open houses on Wednesday evenings, but check their website to confirm.

A Styled Shoot at Eaglemont Golf Course

I just love when I am invited to do a styled shoot! A few weeks ago, Jocelin, the wedding coordinator at Eaglemont Golf Course asked if I would help design a set of tables for a commercial they were shooting to showcase the wedding and event portion of their venue. Of course I jumped on the idea and together we gathered some of the best wedding professionals in the valley to pull it off.

The day of the shoot was beautiful and everything came together perfectly. We wanted to go with a romantic neutral color scheme with burgundy accents. We set up three complementing tables and each having it’s own unique feel. After doing this shoot, I would love to see a couple do the same thing. When planning with couples, I usually hear that they would like each table to be set up the same. How much fun would it be to have three to five different table designs that complemented each other?   Having small differences at each table but keeping the overall look and feel the same.I think it would be beautiful! What do you think? We would love to hear your thoughts.

A Styled Shoot in La Conner

This past spring I had the opportunity to take part in my first ever styled shoot. Together with other wedding professionals in my area, we created a truly unique set up for a styled shoot. This event took place in La Conner at their historic building, Maple Hall.

We set the upstairs meeting room up as an intimate ceremony. Kelly from Country Bouquets Floral did an amazing job of utilizing daffodils from the valley in her arrangements.

Amber from Cheers Wedding and Event Planning did wonderful job at creating menu and place cards for our shoot. She was also the one who got the group of wedding professionals together to put this styled shoot together.

We even had the amazing Roxanne from Xtra Special Cakes create a custom cake for this event. I was so excited when I saw this cake. It was absolutly beautiful. But I also couldn’t wait to try a piece of it. Little did I know, that since this was a styled shoot, it was a fake cake. Bummer!

I was especially excited to use one of my newest products; the Willow Table Skirting. This is the skirt in ivory but is also comes in a variety of other colors. It was absolutely stunning!

It was a beautiful Spring day in La Conner and our vision came together in an absolutely breathtaking display. Ten Beautiful Skagit Venues Set Up for Your Experiencing Pleasure

~

The Skagit Wedding Tour

Front Card - Skagit Wedding TourIf you are currently planning a wedding, you have probably viewed a few venues, right? I wonder how many of you have the same experience that I did. I walked into a completely empty, large room. I remember it being really tough to imagine what it would look like set up for a wedding. I don’t know about you, but I am a really visual person. I had to go back to my venue multiple times to do mock set ups to ensure that I achieved the look I wanted.

This is the whole idea behind the Skagit Wedding Tour. Rather than setting up an appointment with individual venues and then walking into large empty rooms, the wedding tour has been set up for you to do a one stop shop so to speak. Ten local venues will be set up as if wedding receptions are in progress. You will walk into a venue and see/experience what it would feel like to have your event there. Other wedding professionals, such as caterers, wedding planners, officiants, rentals, and florists will all be there as well, showcasing their talents.

Here are the amazing venues that are part of this tour:

What Size Tablecloth Do I Need?

What Size Tablecloth Do I Need?

Taking the guess work out of ordering your tablecloths!

What size tablecloth do I need? This is a question that I get over and over again. In this post, we want to break it down for you. By asking yourself a few questions, you will be ready to order your linens for your event in no time at all!

1. Do I want my guest tables to have tablecloths go all the way to the ground or halfway?

This is an important question that every couple needs to think about. Our advice is generally, if you plan on using an overlay on your table you will need your linens to go all the way to the ground. But if you will not be using an overlay then it is really a personal choice. We do advise if you are using chair covers but are not using an overlay, then halfway to the ground is perfectly adequate. Otherwise we recommend using floor length tablecloths to create a polished look for your event.

2. I have “X” size table. What size tablecloth do I need?

Once you have decided on floor length or lap length tablecloths, you just need to compare your size tables to the chart below.

If your table measures

Your table seats

Lap length tablecloth

Floor length tablecloth

60″ (5ft) Round

8

90″ Round

120″ Round

30″ x 72″ (6ft) Rectangle

90″ x 132″ Rectangle

30″ x 96″ (8ft) Rectangle

8-10

60″ x 126″ Rectangle

90″ x 156″ Rectangle

3. What about my other tables (head, gift, cake, banquet, DJ, etc.)?

We always recommend that you use floor length tablecloths for all your other tables, unless you are using table skirting. Since there won’t be chairs pushed up against these tables, that last thing you want your quests to see are the unsightly legs at the base of your tables.

Once you have answered these questions, you are reading to order your linens.

Elegant Small Ceremony Using Taffeta

Elegant Small Ceremony Using Taffeta

Using Taffeta for an Upscale Look

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to set up a small ceremony at Eaglemont Golf Course. Since the ceremony was set up for only 56 guests, we wanted to create a very elegant look. We used Ivory Universal Chair Covers on the chairs. Instead of doing the typical tie with a chair sash we used a Willow Green Table Runner under a Gold Chair Sash. The look was amazing. We also used Champagne Overlays for pillowing down the aisle.

One reason I really loved this set up was because we were able to use items in a new and different way. Typically, our overlays and runners are used only as intended, on top of tables. This was a great opportunity to showcase how they can be used in other parts of your event. Before doing this set up, I would have never thought to use runners as a sash on a chair cover. Nor, use overlays as pillowing down the aisle. I love tying the sashes on the side down the aisle.  So beautiful!

No to Chair Covers, but Yes to Chair Sashes?

No to Chair Covers, but Yes to Chair Sashes?

Adding color using chair sashes without breaking the bank

Rental White ChairPhoto from Pacific Party Canopies

Often I run into couples who state that their venue has the nicer white folding chairs or they have rented them from a local rental company like Pacific Party Canopies. Many venues in our area have these white chairs including:

Big Lake Lodge – Mount Vernon, Wa

Maplehurst Farms – Mount Vernon, Wa

Greenfield Farm and Gardens – Anacortes, Wa

Beau Lodge– Bow, Wa

Stepping Stones Gardens – Burlington, Wa

Now, while these chairs are beautiful on their own and are much better than the metal folding chairs, it doesn’t mean that you are stuck with just the plain old chairs. Sure, they don’t need chair covers (why cover something that looks lovely?) but you can make them so much more by adding a sash to them. Just a quick search in Pinterest (what did we ever do before?) and look at what I found.

Hot Pink Sashes 2Photo from Jet Fete

I love how the chair sashes are vertical, rather than horizontal. This is one advantage to cover-less chairs.

Green Sash on White Chair

Photo from Pinterest

I love this simple tie for the sash. Many times when you are asking people to help set up your event, often they don’t take the time to make each bow perfect. This type of tie is pretty much fool proof.

Red Sashes on White ChairPhoto from Disney Weddings

Again another simple tie.

Every other chair

Photo from All Star Rentals

Every other chair, cuts your cost in half.

I love how a small addition with a relatively small cost associated with it can add so much. I particularly like the last photo where every other chair has a sash. You don’t have to sacrifice the wedding of your dreams to stay on budget.

What do you think of this trend of chairs with sashes, but no covers?

Personalizing Table Numbers to Reflect the Couple

Personalizing Table Numbers to Reflect the Couple

Numbering Your Tables in a Unique Way

“It’s all about the details.” That is what everyone tells you when you are planning a wedding. To truly have your wedding day represent you as a couple, you need to think about little ways to throw in touches that reflect you and your fiance. Table numbers are one way to do just that. We have all seen the printable table numbers that you can download or create yourself.

Free Downloadable Table Numbers

Photo from Bridesmaid.com

Now, don’t get me wrong. These table numbers, although basic, can definitely be used in creative ways (especially when they are free like the ones above), but why not think a little outside the box. Placing table numbers in a frame that coordinates with your color theme is a little overdone these days. What I am talking about is, truly unique and creative ways to number tables and reflect you as a couple.

Idea #1

Table Numbers Photos

Photo from Rustic Wedding Chic

This couple had a great idea. For each table number, they founds photos of themselves at that age. I love this idea for a few reasons. First, what a great conversation piece for the guests as each table. We are have all been there. Sitting a table with people you have never met, trying to force small talk. These photos could be a jumping off point for lively conversation around the table. Secondly, think of what great keepsakes these could be for you, years down the road.  Love it.

Idea #2

Facts about the Couple on Table NumbersPhoto from Renegade Chicks

Now here is another idea that I love. Use each table number at the answer to a fact about you and your fiance. The possibilities are endless here. It could be answers to questions about the future such as, how many children you both would like.  Or it could be about your past like the photo above. One thing to think about is that the numbers don’t necessarily have to go in order. For example, if you meet on the 28th of June but don’t have 28 tables, no worries. Just make sure your DJ or MC  has a list to release tables to the buffet.

Idea #3

Guest Give Advice to New CouplePhoto from Pinterest

Instead of you personalizing the table number why not ask the guests to personalize it for you. I have seen many different ideas to celebrate anniversaries (Sealing letters and wine in a box to open up in the future), but this is a really sweet one. At our wedding, we did ask couples to write advice to us for a happy marriage but I really love how this would be something new to read each anniversary.

Idea #4

Couples Fav Songs Instead of NumbersPhoto From Pinterest

Finally, one interested way to number your tables is to forego the number altogether. A few years ago we went to a wedding where instead of numbers, they had titles to songs. As each song played, one table was released from their table to the buffet. It was a lot of fun as a guest, waiting to see if the next song was yours and trying to guess the song name.

What do you think of these alternatives to traditional numbers? Any other ideas? We would love to hear them!

With or Without Chair Covers, That is the Question!

With or Without Chair Covers, That is the Question!

Should I spend the extra money on chair covers for my reception?

When I work with couples during the planning process of their event, one question almost always comes up. Should we use chair covers? A wedding is typically a more formal event. Chair covers transform your event into something a little more polished. Think about all the time and energy you have spent planning for this very special day. How do you want your guests to feel as they enter your event space? One of my favorite parts of helping couples create the wedding of their dreams, is that I get to see the guests’ faces as they first walk into the reception hall. I love to hear, “Oh my, this is beautiful.”  Take a look at the before and after photos below to see the transformation for yourself.

When I get asked this question, my answer is always the same, “For sure!” I know that sometimes it is difficult to find enough money in your budget to do so. This is why we offer the use of our universal taffeta chair covers at the basic level for a $1.50 each. We really want your day to be the best day of your lives without having to spend a fortune. We strive to help you achieve it.

A Light Blue and Red Winter Wedding

This last weekend, I had the opportunity and privilege to work with Shelby and Melvin on their winter wedding. When I first met with Shelby a few months back and discussed decorations with her, I was surprised by her choice in colors; red and light blue. My first thought was, “are you sure?” I had never seen these two colors together before. But Shelby has great taste and was a bride who knew what she wanted. And as you can see, it turned out beautifully!

Thank you Shelby and Melvin for allowing me to be part of your very special day!

Even my son, Mason, had a great time!

Mason and Mom

There were two big ideas that I took away from this wedding.

1. Your wedding colors do not need to dominate your event. Shelby knew what she wanted; just a touch of her colors here and there. Ivory linens with champagne accents were the main part of the decorations. Red napkins and light blue mason jars were how Shelby chose to incorporate her colors.

 Shelby and Melvin's Wedding

2. Chair covers can drastically change the feel of an event. I snap a picture as we were setting up of all the tables covered in linens but with no chair covers. Take a look at the difference. It is absolutely amazing.

Sandi and Rocky’s Wedding – Tazer Valley Farms

Sandi and Rocky’s Wedding – Tazer Valley Farms

Earlier this summer I had the unique opportunity to be both the rental coordinator and a bridesmaid in my good friend Sandi’s wedding. It was my first time at Tazer Valley Farms, an outdoor wedding venue in Standwood, Washington.

SandiRocky014 It was absolutely beautiful as you can see from the picture above.

There were so many special touches throughout the wedding. Growing up, Sandi always told her dad that she was going to be married in the Model T. Well, when Rocky proposed to Sandi, Mark had just over a year to refinish the old Model T. He did a wonderful job!

SandiRocky010By the way, the milk wagon in the back was used to bring all the bridesmaids to the field for the ceremony. Yeah for not having to walk super far in heels!

When thinking about my friend Sandi, I always have thought of her design style as country-chic. Her wedding decorations were just that.

SandiRocky031 SandiRocky060 SandiRocky078

Sandi used our 120″ White Tablecloths with a 72″x72″ Champagne Taffeta Overlay. Our White Universal Taffeta Chair covers and Silver Chargers gave the finishing touches to her tables.

It was such a special day, one that I am grateful to have been a part of.
